Scholarship Requirements

Carefully read the details below before applying.

Eligibility

The scholarship can only be received once by an applicant.
To be eligible for the scholarship, you must:

  • Be a resident of the state of Texas
  • Be the son or daughter, living at the residence of your parents or legal guardians who are members of Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative, receiving electric service from the Cooperative at their permanent residence
  • Be graduating from one of the following high schools the same year the scholarship is awarded: Bells, Collinsville, Denison, Gunter, Howe, Pottsboro, S&S Consolidated, Sherman, Texoma Christian School, Tioga, Tom Bean,Van Alstyne, Whitesboro or Whitewright in Grayson County; Allen, Anna, BlueRidge, Celina, Love Joy, McKinney Christian Academy, McKinney, Melissa, Plano, Princeton or Prosper in Collin County
  • Students who are home schooled are also eligible to apply

If you are selected to receive the scholarship, you must:

  • Enroll in the first Fall semester after receipt of the scholarship
  • Meet entrance requirements of the school to which you apply (“school” includes four-year universities, junior colleges and TEA approved trade schools which offer an associate degree). Scholarship will be mailed directly to the Registrar or Financial Aid Officer of the College, University or Trade School to which you have enrolled
Guidelines

In addition to completing all required form fields, the following are required in order to submit the scholarship application.

  • At least two letters of personal recommendation testifying to the applicants talent, financial need, and seriousness of purpose, written by someone unrelated to the applicant (i.e. teacher, counselor, mentor, youth leader, etc.)
  • An essay of approximately 200 words detailing “Tell us about YOUR electric cooperative”
  • Head shot

If your high school uses a standard application, you may submit it instead of the Grayson-Collin Electric Cooperative Scholarship application, but please include your GCEC account number.

Judging Criteria

Applicants will be judged on the following:

  • Financial need
  • Seriousness of purpose
  • Desire to improve and grow
  • Support of community and family life goals
  • Content of essay
